A Guide To Stamp Collecting

When was the last time you did something other than your daily routine? Do you have a hobby? If you don't have you ever thought of stamp collecting? Well, I guess not. Why? Because you may think that stamp collecting is a very traditional hobby and it is a hobby usually for senior citizens or u may call it old people. I bet you think it is not cool to collect stamps.

You may doubt me now but trust me once you take a closer look, you may be surprised at how enticing it is. For the sake of the amateurs out there, let me tell you how to collect stamps. Trust me, stamp collecting is very easy. With this article as a guide, you'll be having tonnes of albums in no time.

Obviously, to start a stamp collection, you need to get stamps. The cheapest way to get stamps is by peeling them off from postages and packages. This is a job that can be easily be done by you or even the little ones. See, stamp collecting can be a family hobby too! Another alternative is to get a large packet of stamps from the bookstore. By having a large amount of stamps, it can give you a head start.

First, let me start you off by telling you about the tools you need. You need a place to store the stamp; therefore, I suggest you get an album or an archival stock book. This is important as it keeps you stamps in a very good condition. Make sure that the albums have hinges as you do not want to place your stamps in a fixed position. You may want and need to classify them in future. By gluing them to the album, you may not only spoil the stamps you may not be able to move them in future.

It is also important to store you albums in a safe place. A safe place in this context means a place that is safe from elements that may destroy your collection. An example would be water. Water can destroy your collection. In order to make your collection waterproof, you should keep them in a polythene packet.

Other things that you should have if you want to start a stamp collection includes: magnifying glass and also stamp tongs. You need a magnifying glass as you may no be able to see the fine details of a vintage stamp with your naked eye. A stamp tong is also essential as this prevents you from damaging the stamp with you oily skin. However, you have to make sure that the tongs have rounded tips.

Stamp collecting can be very simple but it requires a lot pf patience from the collector. It may not be easy collecting vintage stamps and it may be quite difficult for beginners to learn how to grade a stamp. Even some long time stamp enthusiasts get it wrong. So, do not worry about it. You are not alone.

Believe me, once you start collecting stamps and learn how to grade and appreciate them, you will fall in love wih your new hobby. If you doubt me, why not take a chance and take up stamp collecting. Maybe stamp collecting is the hobby you need to spend your free time wisely.
