History of Neck Pillows
These pillows specifically designed for the neck are usually shaped like the letter "U" and slide around the user's neck with the open end of the pillow facing the front. These neck-specific pillows aim to offer orthopedic support, spine alignment, reduce pain in the neck and back and overall make it easier to fall asleep in settings and circumstances that otherwise would be less accommodating. Neck pillows have shown to greatly reduce pain associated with the neck and back. Usually these "U" shaped neck pillows are used when sitting up. While sitting in an upright position, the user simply places the pillow around the neck and uses it to prop their head as they sleep. The goal is for this to result in a more aligned spine thus providing a more comfortable sleep for those with neck and back injuries. There are two primary types of neck-specific pillows; the aforementioned "U" shaped neck pillow and the cervical neck pillow. While both offer specific attention to the neck, they support in two different ways. While the "U" shaped neck pillow is mainly used when sitting up, the cervical neck pillow is used while lying down and provides the user with direct neck support while offering a cradle for the head to lie in. In traveling the "U" shaped neck pillows can result in a more comfortable and more easily obtained sleep. Additionally, the same principles that are in effect for those using the neck pillows for medical and orthopedic support come into effect to reduce the pains that are often found after an uncomfortable sleep or attempt at sleep while traveling on a plane, on a train, in a car or just about any means by which people travel. In addition, neck pillows simply make sleeping while traveling easier. They offer support for the entire head that is not easy to find while traveling. People who have used these "U" shaped neck pillows while traveling are found to be very loyal to them. Many have found that they do not know how to travel without them. Once you travel with the "U" nothing else will do! As mentioned previously, many different versions of the "U" shaped neck pillow have made their way to the public eye, but in general, each one has been about the same. But recently a modified version of the "U" shaped neck pillow was created; the travel COZY. This neck pillow not only supports your head and neck, but also provides support for your arms, shoulders and back. This additional support is found with the use of the arm hammock which connects to the pillow. Users of the travel COZY find that they feel more secure and comfortable. The main goal of any kind of neck pillow is to provide support for the head and neck and to maintain correct position of the spine, the travel COZY does this PLUS offers support for the arms and back. -->
