The Sonoma diet plan teaches participants to learn to enjoy all different kinds of foods. Combining foods in new ways keeps the eating experience from getting boring. This concept mimics that of the Mediterranean diet plan. They don't advocate eating the same boring fare every day in an effort to stay on track. Dieters can choose from a variety of foods and like each one. The diet plan is divided into sections which are sometimes called waves. In the first wave your diet is restricted. First wave is about 10 days or are approximately 2 weeks. This is when the body learns to eat food all over again. Here you will perjure body of high-fat, high calorie, and high sugar foods. Your body has to learn this again because we live in a society dominated by fast food and prepackaged meals in order to cut down on cooking. You will lose weight quickly during this wave. Now most of the weight you lose in these first two weeks is due to water loss, but a good percentage of the weight you lose his due to fat loss. As you continue to diet you will learn about the makeup of foods and how different types of foods make you gain weight. To maintain and keep off the weight you have already lost, you will begin the next wave of the Sonoma Diet. Second wave is the longest phase of the plan. Dieters will remain in this phase or wave and tell they succeed with their weight loss goals. This is very similar to the South Beach Diet. During this phase there aren't any restrictions except for the exclusion of high fat and high calorie foods. When most people sit down for a meal they grab the largest plate they can find from their cupboards. Then they fill that plate until its overloaded. By doing so, they end up overeating and gaining weight. The Sonoma diet suggests that you simply start with a smaller plate. Then fill the plate with food in specific proportions. Doing this allows you to trick your mind into believing that you have more than enough food because your plate is full, thereby, avoiding overheating and gaining weight. The last wave of the Sonoma diet is the maintenance phase. Dieters learn how to keep the weight off and continue to enjoy all of the foods that they grew to love during the other stages of the plan. The Sonoma diet website offers support for their participants as well as dieting tools like menu planners, recipes, and lists of healthy foods to choose from while on the diet. Exercise is not a central theme of this diet. However, it is very important but the Sonoma diet is founded on the principle of changing food eating habits as a basis for losing weight.
