Nursing Bras Tips

Having a baby is one of the most miraculously special times in a woman's existence. It is important for a mother to bond with her baby and breastfeeding is one way to accomplish that. Thus, it is of paramount importance that a mother be comfortable during this time with the right nursing bras.

The bra should fit perfectly and should be easy to use. A correctly fitted nursing bra gives a mother comfort and support, so it is a good idea to get fitted by a professional. The best time to purchase a nursing bra is during mid to late pregnancy so that your rib and bust size will be close to the same size as they will be following delivery of your baby.

A nursing bra that does not fit correctly will fail to support your breasts and can block your milk duct causing milk production to decrease, and in extreme cases blocked ducts caused by a badly fitted one can lead to mastitis.

One of the more popular types of nursing bras are those that have under wires. Under wires provide extra support, especially to those who have bigger bust lines. However, these bras, particularly if they are too small or tight, can dig into your breast tissue and clog a milk duct, which can lead to mastitis. If you do opt for an under wire bra, make certain that the bra fits properly and that the wire is not pressing on any part of your breast.

Nursing bras with flaps are designed for discreet breastfeeding in public. Many bras for nursing are made so that the material that covers the breast can be detached without having to undo the bra. The flaps should be easily opened and refastened with only one hand. Your other arm will be holding a hungry baby, so it is important to choose a bra with fasteners that you can open without looking at them. Nursing bras with flaps are generally the most expensive because of the amount of convenience that they provide.

But there are also bras that have no flaps and under wire, which some mothers prefer strictly based on comfort. However, these kinds of nursing bras are not especially comfortable for women who have larger breasts, as they find it does not give them as much support as those nursing bras with an under wire.

You should invest in a number of nursing bras because you'll need a clean one each day. Look for bras that are made of cotton or materials such as micro fiber that allow you to breathe and move in comfort. Also, go for wide, comfortable shoulder straps to support the extra weight.

These days, there are now many pretty, stylish and sexy nursing bras on the market, although they don't usually come cheap. The best nursing bras are not the most expensive ones or the ones with the designer label but those that fit you perfectly, give you the support you need, function well, and are pleasing to wear.
