How well you know your partner and how they may deal with specific situations will often make the difference between a successful marriage and those that lead in divorce. What kind of issues and situations should you be discussing before you get married? Here are some important topics and some example questions that you should really know the answers to before you get married. 1. FAMILY AND FRIENDS - AND MOST IMPORTANTLY THE "OUT-LAWS" What are your main family values that you would like to bring into our marriage? What do you like and dislike about your family? 2. HEALTH, FOOD & WELLBEING Are you happy with my approach to my health and wellbeing? Do I have any habits that you would like me to change? Do you have a family history of illness? If you do, does this cause you to have any worries? 3. WORK LIFE What length of time will we be spending at work and between what hours? What are the most important aspects to you about your job? 4. MORALS, CONVICTIONS AND CORE BELIEFS Which person in your life as had the biggest impact on you and why? Is there absolutely anything you would ever fight in a real fight for? 5. WEALTH What do out finance books look like? Do we have any debt or savings/property/assets? How do you manage your money? 6. SEX Do you discuss with your partner what you love about sex and what you hate? What are your expectations about sex? 7. HOLIDAYS How do you want to spend your days off? What would your ideal holiday be? 8. PAST TIMES AND LEISURE Are we satisfied with the quality and quantity of friends we currently have? Would we like to be more involved socially? Are we overwhelmed socially and need to cut back on such commitments? Are there any hobbies or interests you would like to do in the future either together or on your own? 9. HAVING CHILDREN AND PARENTING What sort of parent would you like to be? What were your experiences like as a child? 10. PAST EXPERIENCE AND FUTURE What would you like to get our of life as a couple and as an individual? What are your long-range goals? Short-range goals? 11. RELATIONSHIP COMMUNICATION Should we be unfront and honest about everything in our relationship? What is your way of dealing with issues that bother you? 12. ANIMALS IN THE HOME Do you want pets in the future? If so what kind? Why would you like a pet? Or what would you not like to have one? 13. GETTING MARRIED What are the reasons why you would like to get married? Do you have cold feet? 14. RELIGION Does religion play an important part in your life? Are you spiritual? 15. CONFLICT ISSUES What is our strategy for dealing with conflict or problems? What is the best way for us to handle a disagreement? 16. LIFE AT HOME What will our strategy be for chores? Do we have different standards of organizing things and keeping things clean? Do you need to have some alone time sometimes? If so how much and when? -->
